Narrator Barrie Kreinik delivers this short story collection at a comfortably relaxed pace. The works feature outsider protagonists, such as a preteen who has just revealed his sexual orientation and a man who is jealous of a pet cat's relationship with his girlfriend. Kreinik's voice is clear and deep yet feminine. She conjures a reflective mood that is appropriate for these painfully human character studies. Providing accurate accents and intonation for the Jewish New Yorkers featured in the stories works well to differentiate them. Gentle guitar music complements the work during the introduction and conclusion. S.E.G. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2020]
