DÉSIRÉE'S BABY

by | Read by Jacqueline Kinlow

Fiction • 2.5 hrs. • Unabridged • ©

Kate Chopin's stories of late nineteenth-century Louisiana focus on women of various backgrounds laced tightly into a racially and culturally complex society. Kinlow reads in a soft, deliberate, ladylike voice, which makes an appropriate backdrop for these women whose choices are so constrained by convention. Kinlow produces a range of convincing accents for the characters, and her dramatizations are compelling although as narrator she tends to let her accent float, which gives the narrator an undefined quality.
