Kate Reading's narration of this work might be summed up as sympathetic and transparent. Reading's voice communicates sympathy with the complex story of this nineteenth-century saint, which is considerably illuminated by the author's contemporary analysis of her character. As Harrison switches from Therese's own writings to a host of other period sources, such as her sisters, Reading shifts tone smoothly.
