Narrator Allen Grunerud ratchets up the tension in this sci-fi about Big Pharma profits and our reliance on prescription drugs. Dr. Clyde Daniel and his team invented WAND, a device that cures most serious illnesses. Grunerud's Daniel calmly explains the miraculous invention, but that calm is soon shattered when Daniel must defend himself against a brutal killer who is targeting those involved with WAND's development. Grunerud's compelling delivery taps into a subject that most people will connect with, and the cross-country trip with Daniel and Dr. Donna Sawyer is equally relatable as they run for their lives. A mother's story of her daughter's miraculous recovery with the aid of WAND adds a bit of relief from the tension, and the story's conclusion is hopeful and timely.
