Narrator Kendall Taylor makes an epic love affair seem like a believable progression in this romantic fantasy. An Earth native named Lauren falls through a portal that leads to a mythical world. Aron, a battle god, also finds himself in exile in this mortal world. Lauren must serve as his guide as they both search for a way back to their respective homes. Taylor makes Lauren sound very modern as she expresses frustration over her fate. For the arrogant Aron, Taylor uses a gruff, imperious voice, and she provides additional voices for other gods as well as guards and villagers. With the exception of a few mispronounced words, Taylor is both competent and entertaining. She creates intimacy amid the story's sprawling geography, leaving listeners wanting more.
