Father-and-son narrators deliver this literary collaboration between Christopher Tolkien and his father, J.R.R. Tolkien. Samuel West narrates various incomplete versions of Tolkien's story of Tuor's journey to Gondolin and the fate of that city, handling the elevated style and the many fantastic names of people and places with aplomb. Timothy West interjects with Christopher Tolkien's extensive editorial notes. It's an effective presentation, though necessarily disjointed due to the structure of the book--listeners may find that just when they're getting swept up into the flow of a story, it ends abruptly. This audiobook will be best enjoyed by Tolkien completists and anyone interested in the evolution of the mythology that was realized in THE HOBBIT, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and THE SILMARILLION.
