Narrator Anne Flosnik serves as tour guide, taking listeners deep inside five fascinating caves in the Dordogne region of France. The descriptions of the Paleolithic art on the walls are vivid, and equally so are the tactile sensations, such as humid earthiness and dripping water sounds. Alternating chapters provide anthropological background. There is a lot to take in, and Flosnik is up to the task, maintaining a clear and steady pace. Sadly, no images are provided, but the listener will be able to visualize mammoths, horses, and ibex.
