GIRL IN THE TREE

Narrator Soneela Nankani is the perfect choice for this story about a girl who climbs up a tree to avoid modern-day politics in Turkey. The character remains unnamed throughout the novel, but through a heartfelt performance Nankani makes her as alive and vivid as any character in fiction. Listeners grow to admire this young woman who retreats from society and yet also manages to fall in love with a hotel employee who sees her everyday from his post. Nankani sets a steady pace and a personal tone that creates the feeling we are hearing the musings of a friend, or reading her diary.
