Three narrators ably reveal the emotional difficulties of mothers who are dealing with childbirth and depression. In a determined tone, Piper Goodeve narrates the bulk of this audiobook, portraying Beth, who strives for independence, rather than leaning on her three siblings and their spouses. Beth's mother, Grace, who struggles with an unreliable husband and four children, with another on the way, is voiced by Sarah Mollo-Cristensen in soft, sad tones. Jean Ann Douglass, the third narrator, portrays Mary Anne, Grace's sister, who fills in the blanks of Grace's disappearance. This sympathetic story unfolds slowly as it depicts multigenerational struggle, family support, and love, ending on a positive note. M.B.K.
