THE GODDESSES OF KITCHEN AVENUE

Bernadette Dunne does a remarkable job sorting through the female characters of this novel. She evokes different ages, races, and economic backgrounds with a simplicity that begs recognition. This story is recounted as entries in the diaries of four women who live in the same neighborhood. Each woman is at a transitional stage in her life, and they intermingle and give each other support and wisdom over coffee and cookies. This is definitely "chick lit"--the men are handsome and, eventually, kind; the women are wise, beautiful, and kind; the children are above average . . . and everything comes out all right at the end.
