Miriam Rivers and Aya are a mother and daughter whose relationship is characterized by anger, emotional distance, and missed communications. Just as Aya starts to move from troubled teen to solid college student, she is mistaken for a robber and shot by police. Poet and novelist Bandele weaves a taut and haunting story of a mother keeping watch over her critically wounded daughter. Myra Lucretia Taylor's performance is, in a word, superb.
