Anyone who eats should pay attention to the lessons in this audiobook about the potential devastating threats to American agriculture. Eric Meyers offers a solid narration. His tone is even and far from strident, despite the dire nature of the topic. The author is a journalist, and his straightforward style translates well to audio. In addition, his focus on two examples--a farm in Iowa is featured while discussing soil loss and one in California while discussing water--helps listeners follow the narrative. Meyers sets off direct quotations by slightly altering his voice and adding appropriate pauses. The work is not all doom and gloom. In the later sections, he discusses soil-building, water-smart, and climate-coping strategies that could save us from disaster. R.C.G. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2020]
