TECUMSEH AND THE PROPHET The Shawnee Brothers Who Defied a Nation

by | Read by Mark Bramhall

Biography & Memoir • 19.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2020

Narrator Mark Bramhall has one of most American sounding voices one can imagine. It's perfectly suited to this story of the Wild West of the late eighteenth century, when hundreds of thousands of white settlers poured across the Appalachian Mountains into Indian Country--Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. At times, there's a quaver in Bramhall's voice as he delivers this straightforward, detailed, and extremely violent biography of the Shawnee chief Tecumseh and his younger brother, Tenskwatawa. The pair won begrudging respect from Territorial Governor William Henry Harrison and a duplicitous U.S. Government bent on taking away Native lands and moving all Native Americans west of the Mississippi. Needless to say, it didn't turn out well. Tecumseh died in battle in 1813, and Manifest Destiny marched on. B.P. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2020]
