Dual narrators Jennifer Woodward and Robert Portal cleverly deliver a cheeky, delightful romance featuring a melodramatic author, Annie Shepherd, and her uptight British agent, Henry Higgins. The performance opens with Annie gossiping to Henry at her boyfriend's funeral; it's apparent that their relationship is coarse. But that changes when Annie confesses to Henry that her work has actually been written by her late boyfriend and she needs help saving her faux career. The campy introduction will hook listeners on the outrageous plot, and Woodward and Portal are authentic in their character portrayals. But the true charm is found in the story's development from a droll amusement to a sweet and sensible romance. G.M.
