Listeners join Newfoundland policeman Sgt. Windflower as the death of a local girl leads to the discovery of a human trafficking ring in this otherwise idyllic locale. Narrator Francis Kearney is the perfect match for this mystery. His characterization of Windflower is spot-on; he creates a likable and believable character who is both gentle and honorable, a person who takes enjoyment from the simple pleasures of life. Kearney also characterizes the other key characters well, including Sheila, Windflower's long-term girlfriend. With his strong sense of timing, Kearney keeps the plot moving, even during the lengthy descriptions of food that are peppered throughout the audiobook.
