EARTHFASTS

Amid an English landscape that attests to more than a millennium of human activity, two teenaged boys are at the focus of bizarre events in which the past penetrates the present. This novel assumes a young person's perspective without condescension or artistic compromise. The writing, lean and vivid with powerful evocations of landscape and mood, invites reading aloud. Norgate does handsomely by it, reading with a gravity that carries no hint of extravagance or mockery. The listener is particularly aware of his mastery of a wide range of British dialects.
