In Florida in 1936, Tugwell Dockery loses his parents to an auto accident and his 18-year-old brother to prison. Peck’s bittersweet story is memorably re-created by narrator Scott Shina. He enlivens the lingo and intonation of the era, rendering the less than perfectly grammatical language as simple poetry. As the brothers move toward a reunion, listeners get a glimpse into the cruelty of prison life.
