Author Joanne Harris's warm, well-modulated voice is perfectly suited to narrating her interconnected stories of fairy-world denizens and human folk. At the center is the drama of the impish and arrogant Lacewing King, whose adventures span generations, leaving a wake of consequences for all he meets. Whimsical instrumental music serves as transitions between the stories and adds to the warmth of the listening experience by balancing its darker moments. As the collection wends through time, seemingly separate tales of animal politics, clockwork princesses, and lovelorn villagers intersect with the Lacewing King; his rival, the Spider Queen; and other fanciful creatures.
