This audiobook is a well-narrated take on the tangled meaning of "wild" in these human-centric times. Just what are the obligations that people have to living things beyond themselves? Narrator Amy Landon delivers a solid performance, nicely paced, with enough variety in her voice to maintain the listener's interest. Her mid-sentence pauses might be distracting for some, but that is a minor quibble. Author Marris explores some tough questions: What is even "natural" anymore? Is preserving species a moral justification for the existence of zoos? Are we obligated to protect all sentient creatures? These are fascinating, difficult questions to ponder. Marris does a service to raise them, and Landon supports that service throughout her steady performance. G.S. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2021]
