When Laura Coleman arrives at an animal refuge in the Bolivian jungle after leaving her marketing job in England, she doesn't think she'll last a day amid the mud, rats, bugs, outhouses, and bra-stealing shrieking monkeys. She's also in charge of a puma named Wayra whom she is absolutely terrified of. Coleman's lovely English voice sounds emotionally honest, self-reflective, and expressive. She illuminates her story with a sense of place--its wet seasons, terrifying forest fires, dispiriting mass logging, and torturous mosquitoes. Laura and Wayra both learn to trust, be brave, and love--and that even if it hurts, it's worth it to get close to someone (even if that someone is a puma).
