This Nobel laureate's first novel since 1973 is a political satire that takes place in a reimagined Nigeria. It is filled with mystery, drama, and humor. Michael Obiora meticulously paces himself in his narration. If he's not portraying the rebranded Papa Davina, a religious leader, then he is focused on other over-the-top characters like Sir Goddie. His delivery of female characters is overwhelmingly dramatic, again playing into laugh-out-loud humor that keeps one's attention on the unfolding story. Obiora's tone, purposely sarcastic, crafty, and theatrical, illuminates the corruption in Soyinka's Nigeria. T.E.C. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2021]
