Nora Hunter, who narrated LeZotte's first audiobook, SHOW ME A SIGN, narrates this sequel. She conveys the intense feelings of Mary Lambert, a sensitive, deaf 14-year-old who is still recovering from being kidnapped for the purpose of being used as a "live specimen." Mary has a passion for writing, and Hunter's reading of her beautifully composed words suggests Mary's talent. Hunter emphasizes the tension that arises when Mary frees a biracial deaf child from physical, intellectual, and emotional bondage. Hunter's narration is true to the historical setting and the viewpoints of the differently-abled. She shifts easily between spoken language and descriptions of sign language and underscores the prejudice experienced by the characters in this story.
