Dean creates great contrast between the communicative, sensitive Adam and his reclusive neighbor, Wes Mobray, whose terse conversational style is well delivered. Adam's daughter, August, is equally distinguished in dialogue, and her cute "yays" enliven the text. As Adam struggles to balance his family's scientific views on Christmas and his daughter's wish for oodles of Christmas lights, Dean's narration emphasizes their honest exchanges. Whether it's a family breakfast with August or an intimate moment between Adam and Wes, Dean brings Parrish's characters through their trials and gives listeners their holiday happily ever after.
