Author Vanessa Nakate narrates her audiobook in English with a lovely Ugandan accent, but her subject is ugly: the impacts of climate change on Africa and the entire global south. Nakate started her life as a climate activist when she was in college by nervously protesting--alone or with some friends. She grew more active the more she learned about the relentless devastation climate change brings. It is not easy for a woman to take such a public role in Uganda, and authorities there are fairly hostile to public protests. Nakate's writing is informal and without pretension. Some listeners may find her narration a bit slow and lacking in the passion she clearly feels for her subject, but the importance of her message cannot be overlooked.
