Narrator Andrea Giordani skillfully introduces 10-year-old English city girl Gemma Merriman and her relatives, who live in rural Canada. Listeners accompany Gemma as she flies to Canada by herself. First a baby passenger spills cola on her lap, and then she meets cousins Dale, Sunny, and Landon at their rustic farm. Endearing moments in which Giordani shines include Gemma's keeping a diary with her own sketches and trying things she's never done before, such as visiting an abandoned house and bottle-feeding a baby goat. Giordani's farm animal sounds are phenomenal, and relatable emotions from exhilaration to homesickness add to this enchanting story. Audio is ideal to re-create the outstanding examples of cultural and linguistic differences for young listeners and those young at heart.
