MY MUM AND OTHER HORROR STORIES

Author Harper and narrator Abigail Cruttenden have created a delightful story of the pluses and minuses of being an eccentric vicar's child. Kate is used to people correcting her when she, correctly, announces her mum is a vicar and her dad is a hairdresser. However, it’s much harder to adjust to all the attention and expectations that are heaped upon her as a preacher's kid. Harper captures Kate's mixed emotions about God and prayer, as well as her anger when she feels her mother isn't practicing what she preaches. Cruttenden conveys the pain, frustration, and pleasure of Kate’s first date, her realization that her grandmother is frail and failing, and her endurance of the bullying of jealous girls.
