In a unique twist on cozy mysteries, narrator C.S.E. Cooney portrays Rarity Cole, a cancer survivor who moves to Sedona to open a bookstore. And when a member of her cancer survivors' book club disappears, the other ladies are determined to solve the case. Cooney performs with a wide range of variations, giving each character detailed vocal qualities--an accent, a change of pace, or an inflection-- and each character is unique. There are a few vocal inconsistencies, one or two characters feel overdone periodically, and the romance between Rarity; her BFF, Sam; and the leading men sometimes sounds forced. But, overall, Cooney's soothing voice helps to make this a short and lighthearted listen. E.P. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2022]
