THE IMAGINATION CHAMBER

Author Philip Pullman narrates this companion novel to his renowned trilogy titled His Dark Materials. It comes off like a deleted-scenes section of a DVD with interesting bonus content for those who have read the core series. However, it would be incomprehensible to new listeners. Most entries in this audiobook are not quite full scenes--each is a sentence or two that elaborates on an existing scene from one of the other titles. Listeners will delight in hearing how the author pronounces words, like "daemon," and how he envisions characters sounding, like Lee Scoresby's Texas accent. Although it's always a delight to listen to Pullman's mature British voice, readers might have an easier time absorbing each bite-sized fragment in text rather than listening.
