This audiobook takes place during the late 1960s-early 1970s, when the U.S. was undergoing a cultural revolution. Carol Marks embodies that time of transition as she rejects the Disney version of womanhood, defies parental expectations, and adopts the new sexual mores of the "Age of Aquarius." Narrator Rebecca Ballantine captures the young vocalist/composer's warmth, susceptibility to influence, and passionate quest for success. The novel is largely biographical--author Carol Selick reflects upon her real-life story of breaking into the music business.
