This audiobook is a long and complex prequel to THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE. The West/Glorian chapters are narrated by Ellie Kendrick, who portrays a young queen who is struggling against her destiny. The South/Tunuva chapters, narrated by Sheila Atim, focus on the Priory warriors who are training to defeat fire-breathing dragons. In the East/Dumai chapters, Hanako Footman presents the story of a young "god-singer" in a culture that worships dragons. Finally, the North/Wulf chapters, narrated by Thoren Ferguson, tells the story of the sole male character who is featured. While all the narrators give skillful performances, listeners may find the accompanying pdf file helpful for keeping the threads of the complex plot straight.
