THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE

Audrey Niffenegger's time-traveling love story, first published in 2003, is made even better by entertaining performances from Fred Berman and Phoebe Strole. Librarian Henry DeTamble has no control over his time traveling. Clare is only 6 years old when Henry first appears to her from the future. Clare's life continues in a linear path as Henry drops in, mostly unexpectedly. Their friendship turns to romance, then to enduring love. Berman is especially appealing as Henry. He adds both humor and pathos when describing Henry's sudden time shifts, sounding appropriately embarrassed and confused each time Henry turns up somewhere--naked. Strole believably ages with Clare.
