Siblings Bowman and Summer, who learn survival skills and a keen knowledge of animals while being raised on a remote Colorado ranch, are at the crux of this story. The audiobook bounces between the past and present as their nemesis tries to steal their multimillion-dollar inheritance. MacLeod Andrews is especially deft with the voices of the women involved, varying them greatly, along with that of a banker who has a folksy Texas twang. Andrews succeeds at making other vocal shifts, as well. An uncle has a deep, quiet voice, while Bowman's gentle pace matches his thoughtful, introverted personality. The characters are unique, and the narration matches them well. M.B. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2023]
