This Seattle-based legal mystery is expertly performed by Kristi Alsip, whose low-key narration style is nicely punctuated by a more dramatic presentation of dialogue. This two-toned approach works well, and Alsip avoids sounding either flat or excessive. Attorney Camille Delaney, who is on the verge of financial ruin, lands an opportunity she can't turn down--suing a doctor involved in a C-section that ended with the baby's death. The doctor, Jessica Kensington, is well regarded, and her father is a friend of Delaney. But Delaney pushes ahead, uncovering unpleasant facts about Jessica's past. Alsip can express an emotion or attitude with just a change in pacing or pitch. Her skill adds dimension to the characters and keeps the listener engaged.
