Author Petrea Burchard brings her romantic historical fiction to vibrant life in this time-travel trip to sixth-century England. After Casey, a California actress, flies to England, she's involved in a riding accident that propels her into the sixth century, where she unintentionally saves King Arthur's life. She becomes deeply involved in his court--an evocative, gritty version of Camelot--while also trying to return to the present. Burchard, a narrator as well as a writer, performs the first-person tale in a nicely paced, slightly breathless voice that evokes Casey's amazement and anxiety. Burchard shades the characters with telling Casey's Californian, the Britons' English, and Lancelot's French--without making the ancients sound modern. It's all much fun and thoroughly satisfying.
