Rachel Pine, former second assistant for a notorious New York film company, has written a fictional exposé of her experiences at the company, detailing all of the bad behavior and personality quirks in minute detail. While the story is entertaining, and it's easy to decipher which celebrities Pine is "outing," the characters are shallow at their best, despicable at their worst, leaving narrator Ana Gasteyer with the difficult task of engaging readers. Gasteyer gives a distinct voice to each character, using tone and inflection to bring life and depth to an otherwise gray cast. The result is an entertaining, though superficial and predictable, insider's look at a glamorous and narcissistic industry. H.L.S. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 05/ JAN 06]
