Kira has never believed her mother's death was a suicide, and now she's headed home to Texas because her grandmother says she has something to give her that makes her think it was a murder, too. Narrator Amanda Stribling navigates this complex mystery to give listeners a wonderful portrait of each character. With a well-done Texas drawl, her portrayal of Kira is spot-on, and Jack, her childhood crush, comes across as a wonderful family man. The final scenes, which reveal the real murderer to a drugged Kira who is begging for her life, are so realistic they are shocking. Stribling delivers the full power of her acting chops to make this a compelling drama and a must-listen. E.E.S. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2023]
