Fiction • 12 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2001

There is madness in Robert Rankin's method. Add a dash Lewis Carroll and a soupçon of Rabelais to a caldron of Douglas Adams, marinate in cyberspace for 12 hours, and you get something like this recording--though, perhaps, too sane. This zany, satiric romp, which features ceaseless wordplay, takes place in the near future. A plot to turn a techno-phobic British village into a theme park ends by revealing the true--and insidious--nature of the nearly forgotten Millennium Bug. Christopher Kay sloshes gaily around in the whimsy, like a kid in a mud puddle. Like the author, he sounds daft but not dumb, and perhaps just a bit more in control.
