Amy McFadden returns listeners to Coyote Canyon, Montana. Ellen Truesdale and her father, Stewart, are estranged; their well-drilling companies are rivals. Despite her initial hostility, Ellen develops a relationship with Hendrix Durrant, the nephew of Stewart's second wife, as well as his business partner. When it comes to her father, Ellen tries to be tough--though McFadden captures her underlying vulnerability. Hendrix has a cousin with special needs, and McFadden gives him a childlike quality full of exuberance. Hendrix's aunt hates Ellen, and McFadden characterizes her with a strident tone filled with animosity. McFadden's performance takes listeners on the roller- coaster ride that is Ellen's and Hendrix's relationship. S.B. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2023]
