DUST SPELLS

Narrator Kelli Tager creates a strong sense of place through the Dust Bowl denizens she gives voice to in this fairytale-esque historical drama. Driven by Hollywood dreams and the threat of Depression-era destitution, Stella Fischer operates a small moonshine still in Kansas with her friend Jane and works alongside her aunt and sisters at their boardinghouse. Tager creates distinctive vocal profiles for each sister: pragmatic Stella, inquisitive Mattie, and sensitive Lavinia. When the sisters, accompanied by a charming drifter, discover an enchanted other world and its enigmatic resident, Archie, they eagerly accept its easy charms.
