Add a measure of the "zoomie-zoomies" to an Estes family summer vacation story, and voilà! Enter the realm of Jimmy McGee, who is masterful, mischievous, and more amazing than a real plumber. He yearns to be a hero and realizes an opportunity when Amy's beloved doll is swept out to sea. Jane Jacobs's narration mirrors Jimmy as he dips in the ocean, soars to the height of a storm, and flits in and out of houses musing and banging on pipes. Jacobs is electric or wistful, playful or somber as each "Jimmy" moment dictates. She also gives voice to young girls and perplexed parents with all the humor that Estes envisioned.
