THE WHITE HOUSE REMEMBERED Volume I

by | Read by Hugh Sidey

Biography & Memoir • 1.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2005

Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan probably couldn't have agreed about much politically, but they all had fond memories of their days in the White House. Although these audio recollections are not in the presidents' own voices, TIME magazine correspondent Huge Sidey does an excellent, almost reverential, job reading this compilation. You can hear Nixon's unique cadences and Reagan's storytelling abilities in these passages. Ford's memories of houseguest Bob Hope thinking he heard a ghost in the Lincoln Bedroom and Carter relating how his daughter, Amy, searched high and low for secret passages are some of the highlights. It's obvious that the White House was much more than a political center for these presidents. It was home. B.P. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 06/ JAN 07]
