An Albanian interpreter in New York City becomes more and more involved in the life of her client, Alfred. They develop a speedy intimacy as she interprets personal information in a therapy session that leads to some challenging moments in her marriage. Narrator Morgan Hallett employs accents to distinguish the Albanian characters and adopts a relaxed pace. Her tone incorporates a slight and seemingly misplaced element of intrigue even though the story is more of a character-driven work, not, generally speaking, a mystery or a thriller. The main character's multicultural perspective, attempts to help immigrants and their consequences, and sojourn back to her Albanian roots are explored.
