HMS CAVENDISH AND OTHER MISADVENTURES

by | Read by Gerard Doyle, Christine Rendel

Biography & Memoir • 5.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2009

This somewhat tongue-in-cheek memoir of a boy's coming of age in Britain before, during, and after WWII is splendidly narrated by Gerard Doyle. Rendel, who was born in 1926 and died in 2014, describes his life with humor and insight. His service as a coder on HMS CAVENDISH in the Pacific is interesting as it presents a common sailor's remembrance of the British contribution to the war in the Pacific. Doyle is a perfect match of text and voice--his pacing, accent, and expression are all spot-on and make this a most pleasant listening experience. Rendel's daughter, Christine, who was instrumental in getting her beloved father to write this memoir, is equally splendid in delivering the foreword and afterword.
