When she flees, along with Luka, her young bodyguard, they barely keep ahead of sinister forces. In their flight, they meet a wide range of characters who give Okoye an opportunity to show her skill at differentiating characters. A pdf enhancement accompanies the audiobook, including a character list, a map, and foreign terms that come up in the story. The pace is steady and fast. Okoye makes subtle adjustments to Viella's voice and manner as she is forced to grow up quickly. Similarly, Okoye conveys the changes in Luca as he matures.
