NOT THE END OF THE WORLD

Using threads of the Flood story, Geraldine McCaughrean has woven a tale of humanity at its best and worst. Timna, Noah's "forgotten" teenaged daughter, is the primary narrator, but other ark passengers, both human and animal, are also given voices as McCaughrean imagines day-to-day life on the ark. Kate Sachs is a believable Timna, who questions the fanatical faith of her father and big brother, Shem, as she hears the screams of friends and neighbors begging for rescue from the deluge. Sachs brings to life a girl with the courage to defy the rules, rescue a young boy and his infant sister, and model tolerant, compassionate behavior.
