Many authors focus on championship teams that are in the spotlight and have banners hanging from the rafters. But John Glionna has turned his attention to a sleepy town on the Nevada-Oregon border called McDermitt, which participates--when it's able to--in eight-man high school football. Narrator Danny Campbell's slightly scratchy timbre fits the American West, and his engaged tone never wavers. His inflections help conjure the characters Glionna writes about--and that's exactly what they are.
