THE SYNTAX OF OBJECTS

by | Read by James Noel Hoban

Contemporary Culture • 2 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2006

This short theoretical piece on how material things "speak" to us might be a bit much for the average listener, but the vignettes are short enough to warrant fast-forwarding to an interesting one if the current chapter starts to pan out. The author avoids most overt religious labels and covers a lot of ground that could be applied to many religious traditions. James Noel Hoban allows the text to breathe, delivering each essay as its own piece, but end-of-chapter pauses cause some awkwardness the first few times they're experienced, giving the impression that the player has shut off or somehow paused.
