A LESSER EVIL

Fifi Brown defies her family to marry Dan Reynolds, a bricklayer who was orphaned as a child. When the couple move to a seedy area of London, Fifi indulges her insatiable inquisitiveness by getting to know her neighbors. Narrator Maggie Mash enlivens the locals as Fifi meets immigrants from all over post-WWII Europe. When Fifi and Yvette, a Holocaust survivor, attempt to help a child who has been molested by her father, they are abducted. Mash maintains equilibrium as Dan rescues Fifi, becomes a hero, and redeems himself in her family's eyes. Those who like plot twists and lots of tears of joy and sorrow will enjoy.
