Evan, an orphan and trained killer, is back in this riveting thriller. While the author does a magnificent job with pacing and story development, he shines with dialogue. And Scott Brick is sensational. Anything Brick narrates is a sure bet, and he really is at his best here. Evan and his pal Tommy have a falling out and find themselves at odds with each other. Complicating their friend-foe relationship is a group of trained assassins who want Tommy dead. Meanwhile, a not-so-honorable family gets caught in the middle of the crosshairs, a situation that tests each man's moral code. Brick devotes attention to every voice, especially Tommy's, which is fantastic. His delivery of the tired, old ex-military gunrunner's quippy, twangy speech is remarkable. His accents and inflections boost the listening experience. M.B. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2025]
