GRAVEYARD TALES

by | Read by Gayle Ross, Jackie Torrence, et al.

Storytelling • 45 mins. • • ©

This collection of six folk tales, recorded live at the National Storytelling Festival, provides children and adults an appealing group of eerie stories. All the tellers are women, offering a good range of style and voice. Gayle Ross's high, thin voice telling a Cree story "The Skeleton Woman" is a contrast to Kathryn Windham's rich, vibrant voice in "The Hole That Will Not Stay Filled." Laura Simms presents a magnificent snake in her tale "The Woodcutter." While the dialect in "Dead Aaron" is a somewhat difficult to understand, relistening helps. The Folktellers, Barbara Freeman and Connie Regan-Blake offer an unusual duet of the poem "The Ghoul." R.F.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 93]
